Permits, placement, transfer equipment, and the difference between a clean DIY and a code-compliant install.

Plan for the AHJ

Most cities require a permit for whole-home energy storage. Inspectors look for UL-listed equipment, proper disconnects, working clearances, and labeling. Budget time for plan review before you schedule install day.

Location and environment

Keep indoor packs out of living rooms unless the product is rated for it. Watch temperature limits, flood risk, and ventilation. Outdoor All-Weather packs need sun/rain consideration and solid wall structure for weight.

AC coupling vs hybrid

Hybrid inverters manage PV, battery, and grid in one box. AC-coupled designs add a battery inverter beside an existing solar inverter. Your existing solar system often decides which path is cheaper.

Safety non-negotiables

Use the cable sizes and breakers in the manufacturer manual. Torque lugs to spec. Never skip equipment grounding. If any of that sounds unfamiliar, hire a licensed electrician.
